Srinagar, Dec 9 (NationPress) The police in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district announced on Tuesday the apprehension of two drug peddlers, resulting in the confiscation of 964 grams of heroin.
A police statement highlighted, "In a continued effort to tackle the narcotics issue, Baramulla Police detained two individuals involved in drug trafficking and seized a significant amount of contraband from them."
"A police team, operating under the vigilant supervision of Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla Assistant Superintendent of Police Headquarter Neha Jain (IPS), and Baramulla Police Station Station House Officer Inspector Owais Geelani, executed a focused operation near the Government Medical College Baramulla Parking Area around 7 p.m. on Monday."
"During this operation, the team intercepted two individuals, later identified as Sobiya Bano (29), daughter of the late Mohammad Sadiq Khan, and Tahir Ahmad Khan (26), son of Amar Zaman Khan, both from Trikanjan village in Boniyar tehsil of Baramulla," the statement elaborated.
"Upon conducting a personal search, police recovered a total of 964 grams of a heroin-like substance, divided into two packets weighing 424 grams and 540 grams respectively. This contraband is estimated to be worth nearly Rs one crore in the illegal market."
"Additionally, two mobile phones and one vehicle (Tata Punch, Registration number JK05L-7844) were confiscated from the suspects. Consequently, an FIR has been registered under Sections 21 of the NDPS Act at Baramulla Police Station."
"Ongoing investigations are in progress. Baramulla Police reaffirms its steadfast commitment to eradicating drug trafficking from society and urges the public to assist by sharing any relevant information regarding drug abuse or peddling in their communities," the statement concluded.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with security forces, has been conducting rigorous operations against drug smugglers, peddlers, and those engaged in hawala money rackets and other illicit activities.
It is believed that the profits from these illegal ventures may ultimately fund terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
