New Delhi, Oct 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom touched down in Mumbai on Wednesday morning at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, initiating his inaugural official visit to India since taking office. The visit is termed by No.10 Downing Street as a 'two-day trade mission to Mumbai' aimed at bolstering trade connections and enhancing strategic collaboration between the two nations.

Accompanying Starmer is a delegation comprising CEOs and high-ranking officials from prominent British companies, along with representatives from major educational institutions. He is joined by Peter Kyle, the UK Minister for Trade and Business, and Jason Stockwood, the Investment Minister.

This pivotal visit occurs just months after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UK in July 2025, during which both countries finalized a long-anticipated trade agreement. The timing is particularly significant as both nations reassess their trade ties with the United States in light of the current administration.

On Thursday (October 9), Prime Minister Starmer is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Modi at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. As stated by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders will discuss the advancement of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as outlined in the Vision 2035 roadmap, a decade-long plan focusing on essential areas such as trade, investment, innovation, defence, climate, health, education, and interpersonal connections.

Both leaders will also engage with business and industry leaders on the opportunities presented by the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is a key component of the future economic collaboration between India and the UK. They will also share perspectives on matters of regional and global significance, as conveyed in a statement by the MEA.

Furthermore, Keir Starmer and PM Modi are anticipated to deliver keynote speeches at the sixth edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, where they will interact with policymakers, industry experts, and innovators from around the globe.

The MEA highlighted, 'This visit will capitalize on the momentum and substance established during Prime Minister Modi's visit to the UK on July 23–24, 2025, providing a significant platform to reinforce the mutual aspiration of India and the UK to cultivate a progressive partnership.'
