Pauri Garhwal, Aug 7 (NationPress) - The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, visited the disaster-stricken Pauri Garhwal district on Thursday to evaluate the destruction caused by a severe cloudburst that occurred the previous day.
This cloudburst, affecting the Pabau and Thalisain blocks, led to numerous casualties and extensive damage to homes, roads, and bridges.
During his visit, CM Dhami, alongside officials and local leaders, directed the administration to accelerate rescue and relief efforts. He guaranteed all possible support to the families impacted and mentioned that he was actively monitoring the situation.
According to the Chief Minister's Office, CM Dhami engaged with local residents and assessed the relief measures currently in place.
The Pauri District Magistrate confirmed that rescue teams have been tirelessly working since the disaster to provide necessary assistance and support.
Sadly, two women, Bimla Devi and Asha Devi, lost their lives after being trapped under debris in Burasi village, located in Pabau block.
Additionally, a residential structure and a cowshed were demolished, and reports suggest that several cattle may still be stranded.
Several individuals are still unaccounted for following the flash floods triggered by the cloudburst. An iron bridge was also swept away, isolating several villages and complicating relief operations.
On Wednesday, after the incident, CM Dhami tweeted, "We have received distressing news about the damage caused by heavy rainfall and some casualties in Buransi and Bankura villages within Pauri district."
He further noted, "Immediately upon receiving the information, rescue operations were initiated from three directions - Chaukhriyal, Pabau, and Thalisain - to reach the affected villages and extend all possible help to the residents."
Authorities have been directed to ensure adequate medical care for the injured and to evacuate those affected to safer locations.
