Bhopal, May 15 (NationPress) Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Uma Bharti, expressed her astonishment on Thursday regarding the ongoing confusion and delay in the dismissal of Minister Vijay Shah, whose contentious statements about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi have ignited widespread national outrage.
In a series of messages shared on the social media platform X, the outspoken Hindutva leader argued that the BJP should have promptly removed Shah from his ministerial role to maintain the integrity of the party.
"We must either dismiss Minister Vijay Shah, who I consider a dear brother, or he should choose to resign. His inappropriate remarks are bringing shame upon us all. The ongoing uncertainty surrounding his dismissal is unexpected," Bharti stated.
She further called on the BJP to adhere to the principles espoused by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "No matter what the Congress claims, having repeatedly failed the benchmarks of morality and patriotism, we must heed our Prime Minister's counsel," she added.
Bharti also commended PM Modi’s firm stance on national security, referencing recent military operations. "The world is amazed by the bravery and composure exhibited by PM Modi -- from the Pahalgam incident to 'Operation Sindoor'. The entire nation is united behind him," she noted.
In stark contrast to the silence from much of the BJP leadership, Bharti is currently the only prominent figure in the party to publicly denounce Shah’s comments and demand accountability following the Madhya Pradesh High Court's directive for police to file an FIR against him.
Vijay Shah, serving as the state’s Tribal Affairs Minister, ignited controversy with his distasteful remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, attempting to label her as a "sister of terrorists."
Colonel Qureshi has gained national prominence by participating in joint press briefings alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh on 'Operation Sindoor' — a recent military initiative targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
