Unexploded Mortar Bomb and Hand Grenade Discovered in Manipur
Imphal, Dec 17 (NationPress) A non-exploded mortar bomb was uncovered on Tuesday close to Koirengei, roughly a kilometer from Luwangshangbam, where the personal residence of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh is located. This incident has caused considerable concern among local residents, as reported by the police.
The Chief Minister was not present at his private home, as he has been residing at the official bungalow in Imphal.
A police representative stated that local inhabitants had reported the firing of a rocket-propelled bomb that did not explode.
A team of police, accompanied by bomb disposal experts, promptly arrived at the scene in the Imphal East district and retrieved the 51 mm unexploded mortar bomb, which was subsequently defused.
This location is situated just a few hundred meters from a BSF camp.
Security protocols have been heightened in the area, and an inquiry has been initiated to determine the origin of the live bomb and the intention behind its placement so near to the Chief Minister’s private residence, as stated by the official.
In a separate occurrence, a live hand grenade was discovered near the home of a primary school educator, Khomdram Pramod (47), in the Uripok Khaidem Leikai region of Imphal on the same day.
Police swiftly responded to the scene and confiscated the grenade.
Following this, local residents organized a protest against the presence of the grenade.
Meanwhile, authorities in Manipur have arrested eight members of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) (KCP-PWG) in relation to the recent homicide of two migrant workers from Bihar that occurred on Saturday.
A stash of firearms and ammunition, including eight weapons, was seized from the arrested individuals.
Armed assailants fatally shot the two migrant workers near the panchayat office on the Kakching-Wabagai Road in Kakching district on Saturday evening while the victims were cycling with a group.
The deceased have been identified as Sunalal Kumar, 18, and Dasharat Kumar, 17.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has vehemently condemned the murder of the two migrant workers and declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of each victim.
He further mentioned that if necessary, the case could be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to guarantee an impartial and thorough investigation.
