Imphal, March 23 (NationPress) In a significant operation, security forces in Manipur have detained 15 militants affiliated with outlawed organizations, including 14 members of the United National Liberation Front (Koireng faction), in the districts of Thoubal and Imphal West, as reported by officials on Monday.

A senior police official from Imphal confirmed that the 14 members of the banned UNLF (K) were captured in the Haokhong region of Thoubal district.

During the operation, security personnel seized a substantial cache of items, which included two INSAS rifles, 13 weapon magazines, 100 rounds of INSAS ammunition, cash totaling Rs 1 lakh, 12 mobile devices, five helmets, five backpacks, and four vehicles.

In a separate action, an active member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), recognized as Thoudam Johnjackson Singh (42), was apprehended at his home in the Singjamei area of Imphal West district. A mobile phone and a SIM card were confiscated from him.

Furthermore, in another operation, arms and ammunition were retrieved from the Geljang region of Churachandpur district. The recovered arsenal included one rocket-propelled grenade, three 30 mm grenades, one 81 mm mortar shell, an improvised explosive device (IED), two 40 mm grenades, two single-barrel rifles, and seven rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition.

Security forces, comprising both central and state units, are intensifying their crackdown on militant factions. Ongoing search operations and area domination initiatives are being conducted in diverse districts identified as fringe, mixed-populated, and vulnerable.

To combat the movement of suspected militants and illegal activities, a total of 113 checkpoints have been established across Manipur, encompassing both valley and hill districts.

Moreover, security personnel are providing escorts to vehicles, including trucks transporting essential goods, along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37). Stringent security protocols and convoy protection measures are in effect along sensitive routes to ensure safe passage.

The Manipur Police have urged the community to disregard rumors and remain vigilant against false videos circulating on social media. "The authenticity of any circulated videos or audio clips can be confirmed via the Central Control Room. Disseminating misleading content will lead to legal consequences," the police stated.

The police have also called on the public to promptly return any stolen arms, ammunition, or explosives to the nearest police station or security personnel.
