Bhopal, Sep 5 (NationPress) In response to the remarks made by Madhya Pradesh's Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Umang Singhar claiming that "tribals are not Hindus", Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed that it is profoundly "unfortunate" that the Congress party continues to act against the interests of Hindus, attempting to tarnish the reputation of the majority community and Hindutva.
The Chief Minister also commented on Thursday that Rahul Gandhi’s statements regarding Hindus were "extremely childish".
In a post on his official X account, CM Yadav stated: "It is unfortunate that the Congress always works against Hindus and Hindutva. What Rahul Gandhi said about Hindus was extremely childish. Now, Congress's Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar is saying that there is no Hindutva among tribals. They should be ashamed. If they raise questions on Hindutva, the public will not forgive. Congress leaders should apologise."
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister labeled LoP Singhar’s remarks as "shameful".
He reiterated his demand for an apology from the Congress leader.
CM Yadav remarked that Singhar's statement is merely the latest in a series of "derogatory" comments made by Congress leaders regarding Hindus and Hinduism, including Rahul Gandhi, Mani Shankar Aiyar, and their allies like M.K. Stalin, who has referred to Hinduism in derogatory terms.
He noted that the public is observing these actions and attributed the Congress party's current state to its "anti-Hindu" stance.
He emphasized that while engaging in politics is a right, the public will never overlook derogatory remarks about Hindutva.
CM Yadav further stated that the words of political leaders from all parties carry significant weight.
"The people of Madhya Pradesh are very sensitive, which is why the Congress remains in the opposition. The Congress should reflect on this and apologize to the public," he added.
LoP Umang Singhar’s controversial remarks were made during a meeting of the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Development Council held at the District Congress Office in Chhindwara.
During the event, Singhar asserted: "I proudly say that we are tribals, not Hindus. I have been saying this for many years."
He also referred to mythological stories to highlight the identity of tribal society, mentioning Shabri, who fed Lord Ram with chewed berries.
"Those who have inhabited this earth since ancient times are tribals. The tribal society needs to establish its identity, and any government should protect their honor and respect," he concluded.
