Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Lead J&K Security Review Meeting on December 19 with Anticipated Key Directives

Jammu, Dec 16 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to convene a high-level security assessment meeting focused on Jammu and Kashmir on December 19, with expectations of issuing some critical directives regarding the Union Territory.
According to officials, the meeting will include the top echelons of Central and J&K intelligence personnel. Senior administrators, police officials, and representatives from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other entities involved in the security framework will be present.
Sources indicate that significant directives are likely to be announced around the time of the meeting.
There are rumors that the operational guidelines delineating the distribution of authority between the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister are nearing completion at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and these could potentially be revealed during the Union Home Minister's review session.
J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has already highlighted the division of powers between the Lieutenant Governor and the elected government as a pivotal concern.
In a recent statement, Omar Abdullah asserted that a dual power structure in J&K could lead to significant issues. The aim is to clarify the growing ambiguities between the Raj Bhavan and the Council of Ministers regarding the operational guidelines.
Sources from the MHA have informed IANS that as long as J&K remains a Union Territory, there should be no confusion regarding the responsibilities and powers assigned to the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister.
It was clarified that police, IAS/IPS officials, law and order, the anti-corruption bureau, prisons, and prosecution fall directly under the Lieutenant Governor's purview, and this should be clearly understood.
“Regarding development, tourism, employment, education, agriculture, horticulture, healthcare, environmental concerns, social welfare, power development, water resources, irrigation and flood control, public distribution systems, and several other key departments, these are managed by the Council of Ministers, which has full jurisdiction over these essential sectors,” they stated.
In addition to evaluating the current situation and gathering insights on the achievements and challenges of the anti-terror framework in J&K, the Home Minister aims to eliminate misunderstandings surrounding the dual power centers in J&K.
Regarding the restoration of statehood, the Union Minister reaffirmed two days ago that J&K would receive its complete status at the appropriate time, once all aspects related to the restoration of statehood and its implications on the ground have been thoroughly examined and resolved.
