New Delhi, Sep 13 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur visited families in Himachal Pradesh affected by natural disasters and evaluated the ongoing relief efforts on Saturday.
She engaged with families who endured severe losses to their homes and means of income due to recent calamities, such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts, as reported in an official statement.
The Minister inspected various sites along the Kullu–Manali route, including Vaishno Mata Temple, Sabzi Mandi (Bandrol), Raison, Dohlu Nala, Fozal Nala, Duada Vihal, Jatehar Vihal (Patlikuhal), Nalsu Nala, Manalsu Nala, Solang, Palchang, Samahan, Bahang, and the areas around the 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th Mile along the banks of the Beas River.
These areas faced significant disruption in road connectivity due to intense rainfall and landslides. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Central Government and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), repair and reconstruction of the damaged roads are being prioritized.
During her visit, she actively listened to the concerns of affected families and assessed the progress of current relief and rehabilitation initiatives.
Earlier last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited Himachal Pradesh to examine the flood and rain-related devastation, announcing a substantial Rs 1,500 crore relief package.
He conducted aerial surveys of the flood and landslide-stricken regions and convened an official meeting in Kangra to evaluate the relief measures and gauge overall damage.
PM Modi also disclosed the early release of the second installments under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi.
Furthermore, he met with members of flood and landslide-affected families, expressing his condolences to those who lost loved ones in the disaster and announcing ex-gratia payments of Rs 2 lakh for deceased families and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured.
