New Delhi, Sep 16 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has acknowledged the tragic murder of a NEET student in Gorakhpur. On Tuesday, he instructed senior officials to visit the location, engage with the victim’s family, and ensure strict measures against those responsible.
This incident follows the brutal killing of a 19-year-old student, who was preparing for the NEET exams, allegedly by cattle smugglers late Monday night, igniting widespread unrest within the community.
The Chief Minister's Office posted on the social media platform 'X': “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of this tragic event in Gorakhpur... and has directed senior administrative officials to reach the scene, communicate with the victim's family, and take strict action against the culprits.”
In the aftermath of the murder, chaos erupted in the area, with senior officials including the SP (North), police station in charge, SSP, IG, and DM present at the scene.
All suspects involved in the case have been identified, and five dedicated police teams are actively working to apprehend them.
The incident occurred around 12:30 A.M. on Monday night when cattle smugglers entered the village with three vehicles. They began releasing cattle tied to pegs, alarming the villagers.
In reaction, several villagers, including 19-year-old Deepak Gupta, rushed to intervene. Deepak raised an alarm and pursued the smugglers, but was captured, forcibly placed in a pickup truck, and abducted.
After reportedly being driven for about an hour, the smugglers threw him out of the moving vehicle, leading to his demise.
In reaction to the murder, an enraged crowd set fire to a DCM truck, while the smugglers escaped in another vehicle.
Local residents initiated protests, blocking the road at Jungle Dhushad. Tensions escalated, prompting a heavy police deployment to maintain order. The DM, DIG, SSP, and other senior officials visited the victim's family as investigations proceeded.
SSP Rajkaran Nair provided an update on the case, stating, “We learned of this incident at 3 A.M. A case has been filed under the relevant Sections, and a post-mortem is underway. Any further information from the post-mortem will be shared.”
“Some witnesses reported a firearm injury. However, I have examined the body and observed injuries but no firearm wounds thus far. We will disclose findings from the post-mortem report. All suspects have been identified, and five teams are actively pursuing their arrests. Our teams are also tracking down the areas where the suspects reside urgently,” he added.
He also confirmed that some police personnel were injured during the incident.
“As previously mentioned, when the youth was attacked by villagers, stones were thrown, injuring our police officers. One officer is receiving treatment, and several others sustained injuries,” he noted.
Highlighting the demands from the victim’s family, he stated, “The family has called for the arrest of all suspects and the most severe punishment for them. They insist on justice through the courts. Their primary demand is for strict action, and given the number of witnesses, decisive measures will be taken against those found guilty.”
Meanwhile, District Magistrate Deepak Meena responded, assuring that all necessary steps are being taken to support the family and secure justice.
He stated, “As you are aware, this tragic incident has occurred, and police action is ongoing. Continuous arrests are being made, and strict measures will be enforced against those responsible.”
“All essential steps have already been initiated. We have established a three-member committee. The post-mortem is being conducted with videography. The family has been informed, and we are in constant communication with them. All formalities regarding financial assistance and government aid for the family are being expedited,” he added.
“We have also engaged with the family in detail. Beyond financial assistance, any additional issues they face will be addressed and resolved swiftly,” he elaborated.
The DM further discussed the ongoing process of providing financial support.
“Currently, the formalities are being completed. We are determining the categories under which the family qualifies for compensation. Once we receive all necessary documents, we will promptly release the assistance amount,” he concluded.
