History-sheeter with 12 cases arrested after UP Etawah encounter
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A history-sheeter carrying 12 criminal cases was arrested on 14 October 2026 after being shot in the leg during a police encounter in Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh, officials confirmed on Wednesday. The incident unfolded late at night near the Datawali Canal in the Friends Colony police station area, where officers were conducting a routine vehicle-checking operation.
How the Encounter Unfolded
According to police, when officers signalled a motorcyclist approaching from Lakhapur Katra to halt, the accused opened indiscriminate fire at the police team with the apparent intention of causing grievous harm. The personnel retaliated in self-defence, striking the accused in his right leg. He fell to the ground and was subsequently apprehended before being rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Who Is the Accused
The arrested individual has been identified as Akash alias Chinna, a resident of Kokpura in the Friends Colony area of Etawah. Police records list him as a history-sheeter under the HS-17B category. Sadar Circle Officer Avnish Kumar confirmed that the 12 criminal cases against Akash span theft, robbery, violations of the Arms Act, and gangster-related offences.
Seized Items and Stolen Vehicle
Police recovered an illegal .315-bore pistol, two live cartridges, and one empty cartridge from Akash's possession. During interrogation, investigators established that the Apache motorcycle found with him had allegedly been stolen from PGI Saifai in May 2026. Further legal proceedings in the case are currently underway.
A Pattern of Similar Encounters Across UP
The Etawah arrest comes just days after a comparable incident in Meerut district on 11 October 2026. In that case, a police team checking vehicles near the Mawana Khurd underpass attempted to stop a suspicious motorcyclist, who opened fire and tried to flee. Officers pursued the suspect toward Niloha Road, where a second shot was fired at the team before police retaliated and hit the accused in his left leg.
That accused was identified as Ajit alias Nishu, a resident of Ahraura village under the Jansath police station area of Muzaffarnagar district. Police said he is a history-sheeter at Jansath with approximately 15 criminal cases registered against him. He was taken to the Community Health Centre in Mawana for treatment following his arrest.
This is the latest in a series of vehicle-checking encounters across Uttar Pradesh, underscoring the state police's ongoing operations against listed criminals. Authorities have indicated that further legal action in both cases is in progress.
