New Delhi, Nov 15 (NationPress) As India undergoes a significant evolution in farming practices, farmers who previously relied exclusively on traditional techniques are now increasingly adopting modern, technology-based agriculture.
This transformation was evident during a dedicated seminar held as part of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) at the District Horticulture Office in Ghazipur, where approximately 100 forward-thinking farmers gathered to explore advanced irrigation technologies and contemporary cultivation tools.
Progressive farmer Anup Rai shared his insights with IANS, noting the evolving mindset among agriculturalists: “A farmer who once depended on age-old methods is now keen to embrace modern agricultural practices with state-of-the-art tools. The relevant department and agricultural scientists are consistently equipping farmers with information about innovative technologies...”
The seminar highlighted the central theme of PMKSY, “Per Drop More Crop”, which aims to enhance water-use efficiency through micro-irrigation methodologies such as drip irrigation, mini sprinklers, portable sprinklers, and micro-sprinklers.
Senior scientists Dr. B.K. Singh, Dr. D.K. Singh, along with representatives from companies involved in “Per Drop More Crop” systems, provided practical training to farmers, illustrating how scientific irrigation methods can significantly increase yields while minimizing water wastage.
During the seminar, informational materials related to the scheme were distributed to progressive farmers, assisting them in understanding installation procedures, cost advantages, and the long-term benefits of micro-irrigation setups. Scientists stressed that implementing drip irrigation and sprinkler systems not only boosts productivity but also promotes sustainable management of natural resources.
Experts pointed out the considerable subsidies available from the government under PMKSY. Farmers learned that a 90 percent subsidy is provided for drip irrigation and mini sprinkler systems, while a 75 percent subsidy applies to portable sprinklers and rain-guns, serving as a significant incentive for broader adoption.
Launched in 2015, PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana stands as one of India's most influential agricultural initiatives, aiming for “Har Khet Ko Pani” (Water for Every Farm) and fostering water-efficient farming practices. By merging modern technology with governmental support, the program continues to empower farmers to transition from traditional methods to a more advanced, efficient, and sustainable agricultural future.
Through awareness initiatives like the Ghazipur seminar, the government seeks to ensure that more farmers adopt innovation and contribute to a modern, resource-efficient rural economy.
