Noida encounter: Criminal with 16 NCR cases arrested in Sector 63 shootout
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A 28-year-old alleged criminal with 16 cases registered against him across the National Capital Region (NCR) was arrested following a late-night encounter in Sector 63, Noida, on Wednesday, 15 October 2026. The accused, identified as Shivam alias Shubham Rajput, sustained a gunshot injury during the exchange of fire and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
How the Encounter Unfolded
A police team from Sector 63 police station was conducting vehicle checks near Garhi Gol Chakkar late Wednesday night when a motorcycle without a number plate approached the checkpoint. The rider allegedly attempted to flee upon spotting the police, triggering a chase on foot and on vehicles.
During the pursuit, the motorcycle skidded and fell. According to police, the accused then allegedly attacked personnel and opened fire in a bid to escape. Officers returned fire, injuring him, after which he was taken into custody.
Weapons and Stolen Vehicle Recovered
Investigators recovered the motorcycle from the scene and subsequently established that it had been stolen. An illegal .315-bore country-made pistol along with cartridges was also seized from the accused, police stated.
Accused's Criminal History
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Swatantra Singh confirmed that following the arrest, the accused's criminal record was examined, revealing approximately 16 cases registered against him across different police stations in Noida and Delhi. Rajput is a resident of the Ashram area in Sector 63, officials said. Further legal proceedings are underway.
Separate Drug Bust in Greater Noida
In a separate operation, police and the Anti-Narcotics Team in Greater Noida seized cannabis — locally known as 'ganja' — worth ₹1 crore and arrested three individuals for alleged drug smuggling. The arrests were made near the Kudi Kheda turn on the Dadri-Lalkuan road. A total of 165 kg and 700 grams of illicit cannabis, along with the truck and car used for the alleged smuggling, were seized.
The twin operations underscore the continuing pressure on law enforcement in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district, one of the NCR's fastest-growing urban corridors and a persistent focal point for organised crime activity.
