Noida, March 19 (NationPress) A man with numerous criminal charges was injured during an encounter in Uttar Pradesh's Noida, according to police reports on Wednesday.
The incident took place at the Sector 142 police station late Tuesday evening.
Authorities state that the criminal was shot in the leg as a response to his actions. The individual has been identified as Pawan Kumar (28), a resident of village Chhaprauli, Sector 165, Thana Expressway, Noida.
Law enforcement officials recovered a firearm, a live cartridge, and two stolen mobile phones from the suspect. The injured individual has been transported to the hospital for medical care, and the police are probing into his criminal background.
As per police information, the accused was engaged in drug smuggling as well as theft from residential and commercial properties.
Most recently, on March 15, he unlawfully entered a scrap shop opposite Metro Sector 143 and stole two mobile phones during nighttime. A formal complaint has already been lodged at the Sector 142 police station.
Authorities indicated that the Sector 142 police station was conducting a routine checking operation near Jain Park late Tuesday night. During this operation, officers noticed a suspicious figure. When the police ordered him to halt, he fled and opened fire on them. The police returned fire in self-defense, resulting in the suspect being shot in the leg. Following this, he was apprehended and taken to the hospital.
Investigations revealed that Pawan Kumar has a history of crime, with over 10 cases of serious offenses such as theft, robbery, drug trafficking, and violations of the Arms Act registered against him at various police stations in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district. The Sector 142 police station is currently looking into additional crimes associated with the suspect.
