During a session in the Assembly, the CM criticized the Opposition Samajwadi Party for allegedly supporting such builders during their governance.
The FIR was lodged at the Gomti Nagar police station in Lucknow on Tuesday evening.
This action comes after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mandated officials to ensure stringent measures in the interest of homebuyers.
The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has recently admitted Ansal Properties and Infrastructure Limited (APIL) into the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016, effective February 25.
This tribunal decision was prompted by a petition from IL&FS Financial Services Limited regarding a loan default of ₹257 crore.
According to IL&FS Financial Services, acting as the financial creditor, Ansal API failed to repay loans amounting to ₹257 crore. It also alleged that although a settlement agreement was reached in 2022, the company did not comply with its terms.
The CM took serious note of the Ansal API insolvency case and instructed officials to act against those responsible.
During a review meeting with the Housing and Urban Planning Department, CM Yogi Adityanath asserted that homebuyers had been deceived by the Ansal Group, a situation the government would not allow to persist.
He ordered actions against all company officers involved and emphasized the necessity to protect the interests of affected homeowners.
CM Yogi Adityanath directed officials to file FIRs in all districts where homebuyers reported fraud by the Ansal Group, akin to the cases in Lucknow. Furthermore, he called for establishing a committee with members from the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and aggrieved buyers to gather solid evidence against Ansal API for prompt legal proceedings.
Officials informed the CM that the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) had ruled Ansal API bankrupt without notifying the LDA and the Housing Department.
Expressing his discontent, the CM instructed authorities to appeal against the NCLAT ruling to protect the interests of affected buyers and investors.
The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) recently declared Ansal API bankrupt, putting thousands of homebuyers and investors in a precarious position. The tribunal has also appointed an Interim Resolution Professional (IRP) to manage the company's real estate projects in Lucknow, Noida, and other cities.
The bankruptcy proceedings have triggered widespread anxiety, especially among buyers of Sushant Golf City in Lucknow, where nearly 3,000 investors—who purchased plots, villas, and flats—face uncertainty. Some buyers have been waiting for possession since 2009.
In light of this crisis, affected buyers have staged protests, appealing for intervention from the Uttar Pradesh government. Sarojini Nagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh is expected to meet with investors to explore potential solutions.
With FIRs now filed and a state-level crackdown underway, the Yogi Adityanath administration has indicated its commitment to hold Ansal API accountable and protect the rights of homebuyers throughout Uttar Pradesh.
