Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) The United States and India are nearing the completion of a pivotal agreement concerning critical minerals, which is expected to enhance strategic collaboration and the resilience of supply chains between the two nations, stated US Ambassador Sergio Gor on Friday.
During his address at the India Today Conclave 2026, Gor emphasized that the increasing interactions between the two countries signify a more profound partnership that transcends traditional trade relationships. His comments followed a recent agreement on a framework for a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) aimed at boosting economic collaboration.
“Both the US and India are closely observing each other, indicating a deeper connection — a partnership that is becoming increasingly robust,” Gor remarked, highlighting that their relationship is entering a new chapter of strategic cooperation.
He also noted that under President Donald Trump, the bilateral ties have the potential to reach unprecedented levels.
“What we needed was momentum and opportunity, and we are now on the path to unlocking those opportunities and that potential,” the Ambassador stated.
Ambassador Gor pointed out that the partnership is not merely about tariffs or market access, but rather about securing vital resources and fortifying supply chains that will shape the global economy for years to come.
“This partnership extends beyond tariffs and market access; it is fundamentally about ensuring resources and supply chains that will define the future global economy,” he asserted.
He specifically highlighted critical minerals as a crucial area of collaboration between the two nations.
“One of the most significant areas of cooperation is critical minerals. Reliable and diversified supply chains for these minerals are essential for both economic growth and national security,” he mentioned.
According to the Ambassador, the US and India are very close to finalizing an agreement on critical minerals that will secure the necessary supply chains for advanced manufacturing, energy systems, and emerging technologies.
“A significant announcement regarding this is expected within the coming months,” he added.
Ambassador Gor also highlighted the expanding cooperation in high-tech sectors. Referring to recent advancements in India's semiconductor industry, he remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated new facilities and celebrated progress in this sector, showcasing the growing collaboration between the two countries.
“The US is also a dependable supplier of LNG, and we are ready to support India's increasing energy demands in the future,” he stated.
During his speech, Gor praised the latest cover of India Today magazine, which featured President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, noting that it had garnered attention from the White House as well.
“I took a picture of the cover and shared it with President Trump, and he posted it on Truth Social,” he concluded.
