New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) In a tragic occurrence near Devprayag, Uttarakhand, a vehicle transporting a family from Haridwar fell into a 300-meter-deep gorge and submerged in the Alaknanda River close to the Badshah Hotel area on Saturday.

The vehicle, a Thar SUV, was headed towards the esteemed Dhari Devi temple when disaster struck. One woman was saved from the scene, while five other individuals inside the car, including two children, are feared deceased.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were part of a family from Roorkee in the Haridwar district. The sole survivor, 55-year-old Anita, wife of Shri Madan Singh, was rescued by local law enforcement and emergency services.

She was immediately transported to the Base Hospital in Srinagar for urgent medical treatment. Anita hails from Chamoli district but currently lives in Roorkee.

According to her statement, the SUV was carrying six people during the incident, comprising two women, two children, and one man besides herself.

The vehicle's driver reportedly lost control of the SUV near the Badshah Hotel area within the jurisdiction of Devprayag police, resulting in the vehicle tumbling into a steep gorge and eventually landing in the swiftly flowing waters of the Alaknanda River.

Rescue teams, including members of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police, promptly arrived at the site and initiated a search operation.

Station incharge Mahipal Rawat confirmed that intensive efforts are ongoing to recover the vehicle and the presumed deceased individuals from the river. The difficult terrain and strong currents are complicating rescue and recovery efforts.

This incident has brought sorrow to the area, prompting authorities to call for drivers to exercise extreme caution when navigating the mountainous and often perilous roads in Uttarakhand, particularly during the pilgrimage season.
