New Delhi, April 29 (NationPress) - On Tuesday, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held discussions with Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu regarding the enhancement of aviation infrastructure in the state, aimed at bolstering air connectivity and stimulating tourism.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that the Uttarakhand government has allocated 524.78 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of Pantnagar Airport. The runway is set to be extended from 1,372 metres to 3,000 metres to accommodate larger aircraft and optimize flight operations. A comprehensive master plan for the airport's development has already been devised by AAI. The Chief Minister urged the Union Minister to hasten the project’s implementation.

He also advocated for the expansion of Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport and the extension of nighttime operations until midnight, enhancing passenger convenience with improved flight schedules.

Further, Dhami called for the initiation of regular flights under the UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) from Naini Saini Airport in Pithoragarh to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. This initiative, if realized, would significantly enhance air connectivity within the state.

Additionally, Dhami proposed launching air services from Pithoragarh to Dharchula and Munsyari to improve accessibility for residents in these remote areas. He also emphasized the need for increased support for nighttime operations at Naini Saini Airport, suggesting an extension of its operational hours.

Recognizing Pithoragarh's strategic position near the borders of Tibet (China) and Nepal, the Chief Minister underscored the critical need for robust air connectivity for public convenience and national security.

Moreover, CM Dhami proposed the establishment of "House of Himalayas" stalls at Dehradun, Pithoragarh, and Pantnagar airports to showcase local products and crafts. He also pushed for direct air routes from Dehradun to Haldwani, Pantnagar, and Nagpur, along with the introduction of international flights from Jolly Grant Airport.

Finally, the Uttarakhand CM requested the Union Ministry to commence operations at the airstrips in Chinyalisour and Gauchar pending inspections to verify their readiness.

In response, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu assured that all proposals presented by Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Dhami would receive prompt and favorable attention.
