Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Dehradun, March 26 (NationPress) A new 42-seater air service connecting Pithoragarh and Dehradun was inaugurated on Thursday, significantly enhancing regional connectivity in Uttarakhand.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially launched the service at Jolly Grant Airport, celebrating the occasion as a “historic day” for the state.
After the inauguration, Dhami expressed that this new service will be a major advantage for the residents of the remote Pithoragarh district, facilitating better accessibility and reducing travel durations. He expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu for their assistance in enhancing air connectivity in the area.
“Today marks a significant milestone. With the initiation of air services between Dehradun and Pithoragarh, I convey my best wishes to the entire state,” CM Dhami stated, mentioning that the state government has allocated Rs 450 crore for expanding aviation infrastructure.
The expected fare for the Pithoragarh-Dehradun route is approximately Rs 5,000. Previously, only a smaller 19-seater aircraft serviced this route, resulting in limited seating and higher fares. The introduction of a larger 42-seater aircraft is anticipated to meet travel demand more effectively and make the service accessible to a broader range of passengers.
Local officials remarked that the new air service has sparked significant enthusiasm among residents, who have long sought improved connectivity to the hill district. Enhanced air links are also projected to stimulate tourism and economic development in the region.
Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasized ongoing initiatives to implement night landing facilities at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, ensuring that all necessary provisions for night operations are being established to increase flight frequency and operational flexibility.
The launch of this expanded air service is viewed as a crucial development ahead of the 2027 state elections, highlighting the government's commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity.
