Dehradun, April 10 (NationPress) Uttarakhand's Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has called upon the Union Government to enhance air travel connections from Dehradun to crucial pilgrimage sites such as Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya.

In response to this appeal, Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, conveyed in a formal letter that currently, there are 254 weekly round-trip flights operating from Dehradun to 11 different locations, including Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Shamshabad (Hyderabad), Jaipur, Lucknow, Pune, and Kullu. Major airlines such as IndiGo, Alliance Air, Air India, and Air India Express operate these flights.

The minister elucidated that India's domestic aviation sector is entirely deregulated, allowing airlines to select their aircraft types, routes, and markets based on operational and commercial feasibility.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the ultimate decision to initiate or expand services on any route rests with the respective airline operators.

In light of the state's proposal, the Civil Aviation Ministry has forwarded the request for additional or improved flight services from Dehradun to Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya to all scheduled domestic airlines for their consideration.

Chief Minister Dhami expressed hope regarding this development.

He noted that under the leadership of PM Modi, the Central Government is consistently backing Uttarakhand to enhance air service availability throughout the state.

“This effort will allow residents of the state to achieve direct access to Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya,” stated CM Dhami.

The suggested routes are of vital importance to Uttarakhand, as numerous devotees from the region regularly travel to these sacred cities for religious activities.

Direct flights would greatly minimize travel duration and provide increased comfort to both pilgrims and regular travelers.

The Uttarakhand government has been proactively collaborating with the Centre to bolster air connectivity, including the recent successful introduction of services to remote hilly areas.

The state continues to advocate for improved connections to significant pilgrimage and business centers.

The anticipated development is set to enhance tourism, religious travel, and overall economic activity in the area once the new routes become operational. Both state and central governments remain optimistic that domestic airlines will soon respond favorably to the shared proposal.
