Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Valsad district police on 5 October 2026 disposed of narcotics-related contraband valued at nearly ₹32.39 crore, seized across 100 cases, at a facility in Bharuch district, using a scientific and environmentally responsible process as part of the district's sustained drive against the illegal drug trade.
How the Disposal Was Carried Out
The destruction was conducted at BEIL Company in Dahej, Bharuch district, in compliance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and was overseen by a Special Disposal Committee. Authorities said the procedure ensures that seized substances are neither held in storage for extended periods nor diverted for misuse. According to police, contraband from more than 14 additional cases is scheduled for disposal in the coming days under the same committee's supervision.

The remaining 30 cases were registered across various police stations in the district.
Post-Release Monitoring and Preventive Action
Beyond enforcement, Valsad police said they are actively monitoring individuals previously arrested under the NDPS Act following their release from prison. Officers periodically visit their homes and business premises, and habitual offenders caught re-offending can face action under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act. One such habitual offender has already been sent to Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad under this provision.
On the awareness front, Valsad police conducted more than 25 drug-awareness programmes at schools, colleges, and public places this year, reaching 4,151 people. The programmes focused on the physical, social, and economic consequences of drug abuse. Police have also urged citizens to report drug-related illegal activity to the nearest police station, assuring that informant identities will remain confidential.
