Jammu, Jan 25 (NationPress) On Saturday, Indian Railways successfully completed the inaugural trial of the Vande Bharat train traveling from Katra in Jammu and Kashmir to Srinagar, signifying the conclusion of all necessary technical evaluations and tests prior to launching the passenger service on the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL).

The trial journey of the Vande Bharat train took place from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station to Srinagar station, traversing the Chenab Bridge, recognized as the world’s highest railway bridge.

This train will also navigate the Anji Khad Bridge, which is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge. The train design incorporates climate adaptability to ensure passenger comfort in the chilly temperatures typical of the valley.

It is capable of functioning at temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius. The chair-car configuration features advanced heating systems to avoid water freezing and includes bio-toilet tanks.

In a significant advancement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make In India' initiative, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw previously highlighted that several countries have shown interest in acquiring semi-high-speed Vande Bharat trains from India.

Regarded as a 'Make In India' triumph, Vande Bharat trains come equipped with enhanced safety features such as Kavach technology and modern amenities, including accessible toilets for individuals with disabilities and integrated Braille signage.

The inaugural passenger train is set to operate on this route in February, with Prime Minister Modi expected to inaugurate the first Vande Bharat train to the Valley from Katra railway station.

The aspiration for a railway connection to Kashmir has been a long-held dream, promising to enhance tourism, horticulture, trade, travel, and education.

The all-weather, comfortable train service will alleviate the challenges faced by valley residents in traveling outside during winter, when even minor rainfall or snow can lead to the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway for extended periods.
