VCK to Focus Solely on Uzhavarkarai Seat in Puducherry as Party Chief Supports Alliance Strategy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Puducherry, April 5 (NationPress) Thol Thirumavalavan, the leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), declared on Sunday that the party will exclusively contest the Uzhavarkarai Assembly seat in Puducherry, following discussions regarding seat-sharing with allied parties.
This decision was reached after discussions with senior figures from the Indian National Congress, including Mukul Wasnik, aimed at refining the alliance's electoral approach.
According to the agreement, the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) will collaborate to ensure the success of the VCK nominee in Uzhavarkarai through coordinated campaigning and voter outreach efforts.
In statements to the media, Thirumavalavan emphasized that while members of the party had submitted nominations in constituencies like Oussudu, Nettapakkam, and Yanam, VCK would refrain from active campaigning in those areas. Instead, party workers will fully support Congress candidates running there, per the alliance's strategy.
A similar reciprocal arrangement will be observed in constituencies designated for the DMK, where Congress candidates will back DMK nominees to consolidate votes and prevent fragmentation within the alliance.
Thirumavalavan mentioned that he has already initiated campaign activities in Uzhavarkarai on behalf of VCK candidate Selva Pushpalatha, who serves as the party's youth wing State secretary. His campaign will extend to key constituencies in both Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, where alliance candidates are competing.
As part of his agenda, Thirumavalavan is scheduled to campaign in Tindivanam and will subsequently visit Kattumannarkoil and Kurinjipadi to participate in nomination events for alliance candidates, including Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam and Jothimani Ilayaperumal.
Expressing optimism, the VCK chief stated that the secular alliance is well-positioned for a significant victory and aims to establish a government in Puducherry. He highlighted that coordinated efforts among alliance partners and a focus on welfare-driven governance are crucial elements influencing public backing.
