Kochi, Oct 1 (NationPress) Malayalam rapper Hiran Das Murali, widely recognized as Vedan, is encountering serious legal challenges after the Thrikkakkara police in Kerala submitted a charge sheet against him in a rape case.

This development follows a complaint from a young doctor who accused Vedan of befriending her via Instagram in 2021. She claimed he promised to marry her and, under that pretext, engaged in sexual relations at various locations, including Kozhikode and Kochi, from 2021 to 2023.

The complainant also mentioned that they lived together for a brief period, during which she provided him with financial support, including funding his debut album and covering travel expenses.

She further alleged that Vedan took advantage of her trust while they were physically intimate.

The charge sheet includes her testimony, witness statements, and chat records as evidence. Vedan, who had been on the run for weeks, was captured on September 10.

However, since he had obtained anticipatory bail from the Kerala High Court on August 27, the arrest was logged merely as a formality.

He was interrogated for five hours on September 9 and instructed to return the next day, when the formal arrest was recorded. After undergoing a standard medical examination, he was released from custody.

During questioning, Vedan refuted the allegations, asserting that the relationship was consensual and initiated by the complainant as a fan.

His lawyer contended that the complaint arose from personal disputes, while the complainant’s attorney opposed bail, referencing similar allegations from other women. The High Court, however, determined that each case must be evaluated on its own merits.

This is not the sole case against the rapper.

The Hill Palace police in Kochi filed another charge sheet against Vedan related to a marijuana incident, following the discovery of cannabis in his Tripunithura apartment on April 28. Vedan and eight others were named as accused.

The charge sheet, which was filed after a five-month delay, indicates that he used cannabis.

With multiple ongoing cases, including allegations of rape, cheating, and drug use, the 29-year-old rapper finds himself entangled in an expanding legal ordeal, all while he continues to deny any misconduct.
