This initiative, spearheaded by the state Sports and Youth Welfare Department, is designed to offer advanced facilities for the village’s football athletes, who have gained acclaim at both state and national levels despite facing resource limitations. The announcement has ignited enthusiasm among local players and coaches, who are optimistic that the new ground will enhance their training and enable them to compete more effectively.
Vicharpur has developed a remarkable identity, not just within India but internationally as “Mini Brazil”, with nearly every household producing at least one football player who has proudly represented the state or even the nation.
Nonetheless, the absence of adequate infrastructure and sports amenities has been a significant hurdle for aspiring athletes. With the establishment of the new football ground, the local sporting community now has hopes of cultivating emerging talent with a suitable platform.
Abhishek Diwan, the Additional Superintendent of Police and officer responsible for the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, announced that the proposal for the football ground in Vicharpur has been sanctioned at a budget of Rs 5.10 crore.
“The ground will incorporate all modern amenities necessary to enhance players’ performance, including a pavilion, a sports complex, separate restrooms for women, and other essential facilities,” he stated.
Diwan also remarked that despite limited resources, players from Vicharpur have established a strong reputation through their talent, with many representing Madhya Pradesh on a national stage.
Notably, football coaches from Germany and various other countries have previously visited the village to train players due to their impressive capabilities.
“With the development of the stadium, we expect an increase in visits from renowned players, coaches, and sports experts, which will further bolster the football ecosystem in Vicharpur,” he added.
Former football player and Vicharpur native, Safdar Hussain Bohra, shared with IANS that the village has witnessed a surge in football popularity over the past three decades.
“Despite facing numerous challenges and limited resources, players from our village have showcased exceptional performances at the national level through hard work and commitment,” he noted.
Bohra reminisced about an event in 2023 when local children had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During their conversation, the children informed him of their origins from Vicharpur, recognized as “Mini Brazil”.
“The Prime Minister expressed admiration for the children’s dedication to football and even mentioned our village during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme and an international podcast,” Bohra recounted.
He emphasized that the Prime Minister’s interest in the village and its football culture has facilitated opportunities for local players, including the chance to learn football techniques in Germany.
Vicharpur football coach, Lakshmi Sais, also expressed her support for the government’s initiative, stating that the new ground will serve as a pivotal moment for athletes in the region.
“Whenever ‘Mini Brazil’ Vicharpur is referenced globally, it garners great respect and admiration for the village and its athletes,” she remarked.
Football player Saniya Kunde expressed that the ultra-modern ground will greatly enhance training conditions for local players.
“With improved facilities, we will have the opportunity to refine our skills and present our talent more effectively on national and international stages,” she said.
Former player Umesh Kunde echoed similar thoughts, highlighting that players previously faced difficulties due to insufficient facilities.
“Now, as the necessary infrastructure is gradually being established, we take pride whenever ‘Mini Brazil’ Vicharpur is mentioned in India or abroad,” he remarked.
Ajay Sondhiya, Block Coordinator for the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, shared that nearly every household in Vicharpur has nurtured a football player who has competed at the national level.
“Previously, due to the lack of infrastructure, players struggled to find an appropriate platform to showcase their abilities. The construction of this football ground will undoubtedly provide them with a new direction,” he said.
