Anil Vij credits Modi for India's rise to 3rd largest economy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij on Saturday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for India's economic ascent, stating that the country has climbed from the 14th position globally to the third largest economy in the world since Modi assumed office. Vij made the remarks while addressing the annual function of Musaddi Lal Arya Girls High School in Ambala Cantonment.
Key Remarks on India's Economic Progress
Vij underlined that when Narendra Modi first became Prime Minister, India's economy was ranked 14th in the world. Today, he said, it has risen to the third position — a claim that aligns with recent international rankings. He added that the Prime Minister has pledged to transform India into a Viksit Bharat (developed nation) by 2047, a goal that has become a central plank of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) long-term governance narrative.
On Education and the Gurukul System
Addressing the school gathering, Vij described the imparting of education as the noblest form of service. He drew a distinction between modern schooling and the traditional Gurukul system, noting that while schools primarily deliver literacy and academic instruction, Gurukuls historically also instilled moral and cultural values.
'Schools mainly provide literacy and academic education, whereas Gurukuls also impart values,' Vij said.
He emphasised that educational institutions play a pivotal role in shaping children into well-rounded individuals capable of meeting future challenges, and that those working in such institutions deserve great respect.
Focus on Girls' Education
Vij specifically highlighted the importance of educating girls, calling it among the greatest services a society can render. He commended Musaddi Lal Arya Girls High School for its work in providing quality education to girls, and appreciated the cultural performances staged by students during the annual function.
Development in Ambala Cantonment
The minister described himself as merely a 'chowkidar' — a watchman — asserting that government assistance channelled to the constituency represents the people's own trust and resources. He said the scale of development witnessed in Ambala Cantonment is unmatched and that the work speaks for itself.
Notably, Vij announced that a national-level Shaheed Smarak (Martyrs' Memorial) is being constructed in Ambala Cantonment, which Prime Minister Modi may inaugurate soon. He said this would be the country's first memorial dedicated to the First War of Independence of 1857, a movement that reportedly began from Ambala Cantonment. The memorial, if completed as planned, would mark a significant moment for the region's historical identity.
