CM Vijay inaugurates MLA office in Perambur, launches grievance app
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday, 13 July inaugurated his renovated MLA office in Perambur, marking his first official constituency engagement since assuming office. The visit also saw the launch of a dedicated mobile grievance application to streamline civic complaint redressal for residents of the Assembly segment.
What the New Office Offers
Situated on Sharma Nagar First Street in Vyasarpadi, the upgraded constituency office has been outfitted as a full-fledged public service centre. The facility features a dedicated chamber for the Chief Minister, CCTV surveillance, and a 10-member staff tasked with receiving, processing and monitoring public petitions daily.
The office also houses an integrated E-Sevai centre, enabling residents to access a range of government services under one roof — a model increasingly adopted by urban MLAs seeking to centralise constituent outreach.
The Grievance App: What It Does
The newly launched mobile application allows residents to register complaints spanning drinking water supply, electricity, sanitation, roads, streetlights and government welfare schemes. Crucially, users can also track the real-time status of their petitions online, adding a layer of transparency to what has historically been an opaque process in urban Tamil Nadu.
Vijay's Political Base in Perambur
Vijay had contested the recent Assembly election from both Perambur and Tiruchy East, winning both seats. He subsequently resigned from Tiruchy East and retained Perambur, cementing it as his political base. Monday's inauguration underscores his intent to maintain an active constituency presence even as he shoulders the responsibilities of the Chief Minister's office.
Other Launches and Inspections
As part of the same programme, Vijay launched the State government's new ration card distribution initiative. At a fair price shop in MKB Nagar, he handed over new ration cards to the first 50 eligible beneficiaries and distributed essential commodities along with land ownership pattas.
The Chief Minister also inspected an MTC electric vehicle charging station near the Vyasarpadi Metro Rail station and reviewed passenger amenities at a nearby Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus depot.
₹48 Lakh DPR for Perambur's Development
Coinciding with the visit, the Greater Chennai Corporation floated a ₹48 lakh tender for a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to prepare a comprehensive development blueprint for Perambur. The integrated area development plan aims to address long-pending civic issues, particularly in densely populated and lower-income neighbourhoods.
The DPR will focus on flood mitigation, drinking water infrastructure, parking constraints, road upgrades and the restoration of the heavily polluted Captain Cotton Canal — issues that have persisted for years in this densely settled constituency. The plan signals an early attempt by the new government to convert political capital into tangible urban infrastructure outcomes.
