Vijay of TVK Summoned Again by CBI for Karur Stampede Investigation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 9 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued a new summons to actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay, requiring him to appear in New Delhi on Tuesday as part of the inquiry into the Karur stampede case.
This latest request comes amidst rising speculation within Tamil Nadu's political landscape regarding potential alliance discussions between the BJP and Vijay’s party in advance of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Insider sources stated that the CBI has instructed Vijay to visit its headquarters for an additional round of questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic stampede that transpired during his rally in Karur in September 2025.
The incident resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries, sparking extensive criticism about the management of the crowd and security measures at the event.
Earlier this year, Vijay had already appeared before the agency on two separate occasions. His first questioning took place on January 12 in New Delhi, where CBI officials recorded his statement for over six hours.
During that session, officials sought information regarding the planning and execution of the rally, the permissions acquired, and the preparations made for managing the substantial crowd that had gathered for the occasion.
On January 19, the actor-politician returned to the CBI office for a second round of inquiries.
During this session, Vijay reportedly indicated to investigators that insufficient police presence at the venue was a significant factor contributing to the chaos that culminated in the stampede.
According to sources, he contended that the arrangements made by the authorities were inadequate given the size of the gathering.
Investigators also inquired whether the police guidelines for public meetings and rallies had been adhered to.
As part of the investigation, he has provided documents related to the event, including the application for rally permission and communications with local authorities.
The CBI took over the investigation from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) following a Supreme Court directive for an independent inquiry.
This order was issued in response to a petition filed by TVK, requesting a fair and impartial investigation into the events leading to the tragedy.
Sources indicate that this upcoming questioning may represent the concluding interaction between Vijay and the agency regarding the case, although investigators may still pursue leads with other witnesses and evidence as part of the comprehensive probe.
