Chennai, Oct 25 (NationPress) Vijay, the actor-turned-politician, is expected to meet the families of the victims of the Karur stampede at Mahabalipuram near Chennai on October 27, one month following the devastating event that resulted in 41 fatalities and over 60 injuries.
As per insiders from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the party has arranged for about 50 rooms at a resort in Mahabalipuram to accommodate the grieving families and ensure Vijay’s personal engagement with them.
“He will personally visit each family to extend his condolences and provide assistance,” divulged a source from the party.
Family members of the victims from Karur have confirmed their invitation to the meeting, noting that transportation has been organized for them.
“They have arranged a bus for us to reach the venue. Many of us are going,” a family member of one of the victims stated to reporters in Karur.
The tragic stampede on September 27 took place during a public meeting led by Vijay, marking a significant early event for his political party.
This incident has incited significant public outcry and calls for a thorough investigation into the factors that led to this calamity.
However, the upcoming meeting has ignited new discussions on social media, with numerous users criticizing the actor-politician for calling grieving families to Mahabalipuram instead of visiting them in Karur directly.
“It would have shown more respect and humanity if he visited their homes,” remarked one social media user.
In defense of the decision, a senior member of TVK stated that Vijay had tried to go to Karur earlier but was denied access by authorities for law and order reasons.
“This is the only practical method for him to meet all families in a secure setting,” the official elaborated. Perumal from Velusamypuram, who tragically lost two young daughters in the incident, expressed his dissatisfaction with this arrangement.
“It is inappropriate for us to go to him. He should come to us,” he conveyed to reporters.
Sources indicate that only the families of the deceased have been invited to Mahabalipuram, and the injured are unlikely to attend due to health and logistical issues.
