Chennai, Oct 12 (NationPress) The renowned actor and president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, is anticipated to visit Karur on either October 15 or 17 to personally extend his condolences to the families of the victims who tragically lost their lives in the stampede that occurred during a TVK rally last month, resulting in 41 fatalities.

As per sources within the party, Vijay expressed his desire to travel to Karur immediately following the conclusion of the party's 16-day mourning period on October 13.

“Our leader is profoundly affected by this calamity and is committed to meeting the families face-to-face before Deepavali. We have sought police permission for the visit on either October 15 or 17, with the final date to be confirmed once we receive approval from the authorities,” stated a senior functionary of TVK.

The heart-wrenching incident took place on September 27 during a TVK political gathering in the Velusamy Puram area of Karur. The event, which drew a large crowd of supporters, became catastrophic when overcrowding led to chaos and a stampede. A total of 41 individuals, including women and children, lost their lives, while over 60 others sustained injuries.

This tragedy has sparked concerns regarding crowd control and event safety measures. In response, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for each victim's family, while the district administration and police launched an investigation.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by North Zone IG Asra Garg, is currently probing the circumstances and oversights that contributed to this disaster.

Vijay's visit to Karur will be his first direct engagement with affected communities since embarking on his political journey earlier this year.

The actor, who officially entered politics by establishing the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in February 2025, had previously shared a heartfelt video message expressing his sorrow and communicated virtually with grieving families.

Insiders from the party indicate that Vijay plans to convene with the victims' families at a wedding hall near Velusamy Puram, where he will personally distribute financial assistance.

TVK district leaders are currently submitting a request to the Karur Superintendent of Police for security arrangements for this visit. An official announcement regarding the schedule is anticipated soon after police clearance is granted, sources noted.
