Kerala's CM Vijayan Shows Support Amid Gulf Crisis Concerns
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, March 2 (NationPress) Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday voiced significant concern regarding the escalating crisis in the Gulf region, emphasizing that these developments have sparked considerable anxiety among Malayali families, both overseas and within Kerala.
It is estimated that over 2.5 million Keralites are currently residing in various countries across the Middle East.
In his statement, Vijayan referred to the Gulf nations as a “second home” for Kerala, forged by the relentless hard work and commitment of countless expatriates over several decades.
“Every occurrence in the Gulf deeply resonates within the hearts of Malayalis and in households throughout Kerala. It is not an exaggeration to assert that nearly every family in the state has at least one member tied to the Gulf,” he stated.
During this challenging time, the Chief Minister extended Kerala’s sincere solidarity with the governments and citizens of the Gulf nations.
He expressed optimism that peace and stability would return to the region and that the relevant authorities would navigate the crisis through wise and compassionate decisions founded on mutual understanding.
Addressing expatriate Keralites directly, Vijayan urged them to strictly follow the guidelines set by local authorities in their countries of residence.
He also encouraged them to maintain regular contact with Indian embassies and consulates and to rely solely on official communications for updates.
The Chief Minister warned against trusting or disseminating unverified information and rumors.
“Unfounded reports and misinformation should neither be believed nor shared. Spreading unnecessary panic through social media or other channels must be avoided,” he cautioned.
Reflecting on Kerala’s collective resilience in overcoming past challenges, Vijayan noted that Malayalis have consistently triumphed over significant crises by uniting in a spirit of mutual support and solidarity.
“This unity is essential now more than ever,” he added.
The state government, he affirmed, fully supports expatriates and their families in Kerala.
The government is actively coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safety of Non-Resident Keralites and is taking action at every possible level.
Necessary support is being facilitated through NORKA, and members of the Loka Kerala Sabha in the Gulf have been urged to remain engaged in ongoing relief and support initiatives.
