Chennai, Oct 28 (NationPress) Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) coordinator Seeman expressed his concerns on Tuesday regarding the absence of any legal action against actor-politician Vijay in relation to the tragic Karur stampede, which resulted in 41 fatalities during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) event.
During a press briefing in Tirunelveli, Seeman accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of dragging its feet on the case due to political motives.
“Had Vijay not associated himself with the BJP, the CBI investigation would have been more rigorous. It seems they are protecting him,” he remarked.
Seeman further asserted that the Rs 20 lakh compensation provided by Vijay to each mourning family was an attempt to hush them up.
“Vijay’s payments were aimed at ensuring silence from the affected families. Yet, the pressing question is -- why has he not been implicated in any case? How can the CBI's investigation be impartial if the key individual is excluded from the FIR?” he questioned.
The NTK leader also criticized the actions of TVK general secretary 'Bussy' Anand, who had previously sought anticipatory bail during the state police investigation but retracted his request when the case was handed over to the CBI.
“Why did Anand withdraw his bail plea once the CBI intervened? Is the CBI meant to safeguard Vijay?” Seeman asked directly.
He appealed to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for clarification on why Vijay's name was omitted from the FIR in light of increasing evidence and public discontent.
“If Vijay is not named, the CBI inquiry will merely be a charade,” Seeman stated.
On a political note, Seeman announced that the NTK’s state conference is set to occur in Tiruchirappalli on February 7, where the party will unveil its candidates for all Assembly constituencies.
“Do not perceive the Tiruchi conference as a pivotal moment; our crucial turning point lies in our ideology. When the populace shifts its mindset, any party can be defeated in elections,” he asserted.
In conclusion, Seeman distinguished his movement from film-centric politics.
“Those who prioritize the nation should stand by me. Those who pursue actors should not follow my path,” he declared.
