Visakhapatnam, June 21 (NationPress) In a remarkable display of unity, over 300,000 individuals gathered in Visakhapatnam to commemorate the 11th International Day of Yoga, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest single-location yoga session. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the event, performing the Common Yoga Protocol alongside 301,000 participants at RK Beach.
Among those present were Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, along with various central and state ministers.
The event spanned a 28-km stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram, surpassing the previous record set by Surat in 2023, which had 147,000 participants for a yoga session in one location.
Participants echoed enthusiasm throughout this vibrant event, marking the end of a month-long ‘Yogandhra’ campaign.
Individuals from diverse backgrounds—including political leaders, bureaucrats, professionals, students, women, seniors, and children—performed yoga asanas along the coast.
Additionally, approximately 11,000 Navy personnel and their families participated, with the Eastern Naval Command also organizing yoga sessions on naval ships anchored in Visakhapatnam.
This grand event concluded the successful Yogandhra campaign, which saw participation from 21.7 million individuals across the state, establishing multiple records.
Yoga's universal appeal was on full display, as participants from tribal communities to urban professionals came together to celebrate this ancient practice.
Authorities set up 326 designated compartments for participants, who performed asanas in sync, coordinated through 607 Urban Secretariats and support from rural secretariats.
After the event, representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records presented certificates to state ministers Nara Lokesh and Satya Kumar.
The ministers also received another certificate for setting a Guinness Record during a mass Surya Namaskar event held in Visakhapatnam the previous day, with 22,122 tribal students participating.
Lokesh expressed pride in the successful execution of the main event, stating it was organized as a tribute to Prime Minister Modi, aiming to secure a Guinness World Record.
He emphasized that the event exceeded expectations, describing it as a victory for the people of Andhra, attributing its success to the awareness fostered during the month-long campaign.
Reflecting on the Prime Minister's encouraging words, Lokesh acknowledged the increased responsibility this achievement brings.
