New Delhi, June 18 (NationPress) In a significant step to improve voter convenience, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) aimed at ensuring that Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) are dispatched within 15 days of any modifications to the electoral rolls.
This reform is part of a broader suite of citizen-focused initiatives being implemented by the ECI, guided by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.
The program seeks to reduce delays, boost transparency, and provide efficient, timely, and trackable services for voters.
With the new SOP, the complete procedure—from the creation of the EPIC by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to its delivery at voters' homes—will be digitally monitored. Voters will receive real-time SMS notifications at each phase of the delivery journey.
To facilitate this, the ECI has introduced a specialized IT module within its newly launched ECINet platform, modernizing the previous system and optimizing workflow for enhanced operational effectiveness.
The Department of Posts (DoP) will maintain responsibility for the physical delivery of EPICs. For optimal coordination and real-time insights, the DoP's Application Programming Interface (API) will be integrated with the ECINet platform, allowing for seamless data interchange and status monitoring.
This initiative not only promises expedited delivery but also strengthens the Commission's dedication to data security and integrity. Every update in the electoral roll—whether submitted online or via physical forms—will now automatically initiate the EPIC generation and delivery process.
“Ensuring prompt and efficient electoral services for voters is a primary concern for the Commission,” stated the ECI, emphasizing that this overhaul underscores the Commission's renewed commitment to digital transformation and voter-first policies.
In recent months, the Election Commission has rolled out multiple initiatives to modernize and streamline electoral services.
This latest SOP is anticipated to considerably diminish wait times and enhance voter satisfaction.
