New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday commended the Chief Justice of India (CJI) for making all relevant materials regarding the controversy involving a Delhi High Court judge publicly accessible, labeling it an "unprecedented" action since the nation gained independence.

He also characterized the judiciary's internal response as "a step in the right direction."

The Vice President announced that a gathering of Rajya Sabha floor leaders will be scheduled soon to deliberate on this issue.

On the same day, he met with Leader of the House J.P. Nadda and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the matter.

"I am thankful to Nadda Ji and Kharge Ji for an insightful discussion on this sensitive issue concerning the judiciary. This marks the first instance since independence where a Chief Justice has disclosed all relevant materials in a transparent and responsible manner," noted Vice President Dhankhar following the meeting.

He also emphasized the establishment of a committee by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna to probe the matter. "The vigilance exhibited by the Chief Justice is praiseworthy. Institutions like the judiciary and legislature can only thrive if their internal processes are swift, transparent, and uphold public trust," he added.

Vice President Dhankhar stated that it is crucial to await the committee's findings, which he believes will offer essential insights for further evaluation.

He welcomed Kharge's proposal to engage in discussions with Rajya Sabha floor leaders. "A meeting will be arranged soon to address the issue with all floor leaders," he remarked.

The Vice President stressed the importance of the judiciary's proactive measures. "Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna's actions are without precedent. Every effort will be made to ensure transparency and respond to concerns raised by the judiciary, legal community, Members of Parliament, and the public," he asserted.

Expressing gratitude for the bipartisan approach, Dhankhar noted, "I appreciate the time and profound understanding exhibited by Nadda Ji and Kharge Ji. Despite their political affiliations, they acknowledge that fortifying the nation's institutions necessitates integrity and a dedication to the public good. It is essential to tackle such matters decisively to avert their recurrence."
