Srinagar, Dec 12 (NationPress) The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, has raised concerns regarding the alleged absence of 3.55 lakh Waqf properties across the country, as indicated by the new UMEED database.
In a post on X, Mufti highlighted that “More than 3.55 lakh Waqf properties are unaccounted for nationwide, with Jammu and Kashmir alone reporting a loss of 7,240 entries in the updated UMEED database. These discrepancies cast serious doubts on the transparency and safeguarding of Waqf assets. Given the ongoing violence and demolitions, the diminishing of Waqf land appears to be another setback for the Muslim community. Where will this end?”
She also shared a screenshot from the new UMEED database, which illustrates the disparity between data recorded on December 9, 2024, and December 6, 2025.
The UMEED database compares the status of Waqf properties from the previous year to the current year.
According to the screenshot Mufti provided, all states and union territories, except for Maharashtra, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Delhi, Bihar, and Telangana, have experienced a decline in Waqf properties, suggesting a significant reduction over the past year.
The largest increase in Waqf properties was recorded in Maharashtra, with an increase of 26,238 properties since last year.
Bihar has also seen a rise in both Sunni and Shia Muslim Waqf properties, with Sunni properties increasing by 3,117 and Shia properties by 3,470 compared to the previous year.
The most notable 'disappearance' of Waqf properties is observed in Uttar Pradesh, while Chandigarh reports the least decline.
In Uttar Pradesh, there has been a reduction of 8,901 Shia Muslim Waqf properties and 1,30,816 Sunni Muslim Waqf properties.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Waqf properties have decreased by 7,240.
