Rising Temperatures and Light Rain Forecast for Tamil Nadu
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, April 16 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has predicted a gradual increase in temperatures throughout Tamil Nadu in the upcoming days, with light rain anticipated in certain areas, particularly along the Western Ghats and specific coastal districts.
An official announcement from the Chennai Meteorological Department reveals that an atmospheric trough currently spans from southeast Madhya Pradesh to the Gulf of Mannar, traversing Vidarbha, Marathwada, north interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. As a result, light rainfall is expected at isolated spots in the Western Ghats districts, coastal delta regions, Ramanathapuram district, and Karaikal area between April 16 and April 21.
However, the majority of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry are forecasted to experience predominantly dry weather during this timeframe.
The department also noted a consistent rise in maximum temperatures across interior Tamil Nadu.
From April 16 to April 19, maximum temperatures in the interior districts are projected to increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius at select locations within the next 24 hours. In contrast, coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are unlikely to see any significant temperature shifts.
Compared to regular levels, maximum temperatures in the interior regions of Tamil Nadu are predicted to remain 2 to 3 degrees Celsius higher than average during this period. Coastal areas, however, are expected to record temperatures near normal.
Alongside rising temperatures, elevated humidity levels are likely to persist between April 16 and April 19, particularly in coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. This combination of heat and humidity can lead to discomfort for residents in these regions.
For Chennai and its suburbs, the weather department has forecast partly cloudy conditions for Thursday and Friday.
While significant rainfall is not anticipated for the city, humidity levels are expected to stay relatively high, contributing to warm and sticky weather.
Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions to manage the increasing heat, especially during peak daytime hours, and to remain hydrated as temperatures continue to rise across the state.
