Temperatures Experience Minor Increase in TN and Puducherry
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 7 (NationPress) There has been a notable increase in maximum temperatures across various regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the past 24 hours, as per the report from the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai.
Officials clarified that overall, there hasn't been a substantial alteration in maximum temperatures within the area.
The weather office observed that in certain locations throughout Tamil Nadu, maximum temperatures were approximately 2–3 degrees Celsius higher than usual, while most other regions of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, experienced temperatures close to seasonal norms.
Among the highest temperatures recorded, Vellore reached a peak of 40 degrees Celsius, marking it as one of the warmest areas in the vicinity.
On the other hand, Tiruttani reported the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 19.5 degrees Celsius, while Udhagamandalam (Ooty) in the hilly regions noted the lowest temperature at 8 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists have linked these weather patterns to the presence of an atmospheric circulation affecting the southern peninsula.
This situation is expected to bring about light rainfall in one or two locations within the hill areas of the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts on Saturday evening and into tomorrow (March 8).
In contrast, dry weather is anticipated to dominate most other areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during this timeframe.
Regarding temperature trends, the Weather Department forecasts that no significant changes in maximum temperatures are likely between March 7 and March 8 across the region.
However, from March 9 to March 11, maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are predicted to decline by approximately 2–3 degrees Celsius.
Despite this expected decrease, temperatures on March 7 and 8 may still stay 2–3 degrees Celsius above normal at several locations, while from March 9 onward, they are anticipated to revert closer to seasonal averages. As for minimum temperatures, no major fluctuations are expected between March 7 and March 8.
Nonetheless, a slight rise in minimum temperatures may be observed from March 9 to March 11 in certain areas, with some night temperatures possibly remaining slightly above normal levels during this span.
For Chennai and its surrounding areas, the forecast predicts partly cloudy skies today (March 7) and tomorrow (March 8).
The maximum temperature is expected to fluctuate between 36 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is projected to hover around 24 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius, as reported by the Weather Department.
