Lucknow, June 19 (NationPress) Wheat procurement in Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant feat, exceeding ten lakh metric tonnes during the Rabi season of 2025-26, as reported by a government spokesperson on Thursday. Approximately two lakh farmers participated in selling wheat at the state government’s mobile procurement centers, marking an innovative first.
Surpassing last year's figure of 9.31 lakh metric tonnes, the state government successfully procured over 10.27 lakh metric tonnes this season. This growth has been largely credited to the Yogi Adityanath administration's strategic decision to enhance procurement accessibility through mobile centers, which effectively reached farmers in rural areas.
The wheat procurement process for the Rabi marketing season (2025–26) commenced on March 17 and wrapped up on June 15. It was executed through 5,853 procurement centers located throughout the state.
According to the government, “Over two lakh farmers sold more than 10.27 lakh metric tonnes of wheat to government bodies, with payments totaling approximately Rs 2,508.26 crore disbursed directly to farmers.”
In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive, procurement centers operated daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., even during holidays. Senior officials from the Food and Civil Supplies department actively engaged with farmers in villages. Procurement continued on Sundays through mobile centers, ensuring that farmers experienced no interruptions.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat was set at Rs 2,425 per quintal for 2025–26, an increase from Rs 2,275 in the prior season, marking a rise of Rs 150 as determined by the Centre, which significantly benefited farmers.
Payments to farmers were efficiently processed within 48 hours via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Additionally, the mobile procurement units facilitated doorstep wheat procurement from farmers located in remote villages.
