Shillong, June 19 (NationPress) The District Sessions Court of Shillong has placed Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kushwaha in 2-day police custody, while the remaining three accused - Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand - have been sent to 14-day judicial custody in the shocking murder case of the Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. He had traveled to Sohra, Meghalaya, for a honeymoon with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.
Advocate Tushar Chanda confirmed to reporters: "Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kushwaha have been sent to 2-day police custody, while the other accused face 14-day judicial custody."
The SIT team from the Meghalaya Police presented Sonam Raghuvanshi and the other four accused in court on Thursday.
In a disturbing twist to the events surrounding the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon, police investigations uncovered that his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the primary suspect, was in frequent communication with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha -- saved in her contacts as Sanjay Verma -- both before and after their marriage.
According to the Meghalaya Police, Sonam had made and received over 239 calls to the number in a span of just 39 days.
Authorities have confirmed that the person behind the name Sanjay Verma is actually Raj Kushwaha, who served as an accountant in the furniture business owned by Sonam's family in Indore.
Raj is now identified as a co-conspirator and the mastermind of the murder plot.
Police suspect that Sonam intentionally saved Raj's number under a different name to evade detection.
Since the case began unfolding, Raj's mobile phone has remained switched off.
Sonam's brother, Govind, reacted to the shocking revelations, stating: "I have no knowledge about Sanjay Verma. I just learned that his name is being mentioned."
He further asserted that the family has severed all ties with Sonam and stands united with the victim's family in their pursuit of justice.
This murder has sent ripples of shock across the nation. What initially seemed like a case of a missing couple took a grim turn when the body of Raja Raghuvanshi was found in the dense forests of Meghalaya, not far from Nongriat village, where the couple was last seen.
The couple had checked out from a homestay on May 23, just 12 days after their wedding in Indore, only for Raja's body to be discovered on June 2.
According to police reports, Sonam had been involved with Raj long before her marriage.
Despite this ongoing affair, she proceeded with the wedding and planned a honeymoon trip to the northeast, which ultimately turned out to be part of a sinister plan to eliminate Raja.
Law enforcement has revealed that Sonam enlisted three contract killers - Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi - to execute the murder.
