New Delhi, June 19 (NationPress) In a crucial review meeting convened at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday, Minister for Social Welfare, SC/ST/OBC Welfare, Elections and Cooperation, Ravinder Indraj Singh, stressed the importance of expanding outreach and fostering partnerships with educational institutions to enhance scholarship schemes for SC/ST/OBC students in the capital.
The meeting gathered vice chancellors, senior university officials, and representatives from the SC/ST/OBC Welfare and Higher Education Departments. The discussions focused on improving the provision of financial assistance and educational support services.
Minister Singh urged officials to collaborate with the Education Department and major universities in Delhi to promote scholarship schemes more effectively. He also revealed plans for the establishment of a dedicated online portal aimed at streamlining application processes, based on insights from the meeting.
“The vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to educate and empower marginalized communities while fulfilling the dreams of B.R. Ambedkar serves as our guiding principle,” Singh stated.
He criticized the previous administration of the Aam Aadmi Party, claiming that many scholarship applications had been left unresolved, depriving students of their entitled benefits.
Commending the current government, the minister noted that swift measures have been enacted to address these concerns.
“In the past three months, 52 percent of pending applications for various schemes, including Tuition Fee Reimbursement for 2023-24 and 2024-25, Chief Minister Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana, B.R. Ambedkar State Topper Award, Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarship Schemes, Merit Scholarships for College and University Students, and Financial Aid for SC students studying abroad, have been approved,” he remarked.
Singh highlighted the closure of multiple hostels under the previous regime, which created challenges for SC/ST students.
“We are currently working to ensure that at least one hostel is established in every district of Delhi,” he added.
Moreover, the Minister announced that a significant event will be hosted at the Yamuna Sports Complex on June 26 to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
He called upon universities and educational institutions to actively participate in the campaign to heighten awareness among students.
