Has Telangana CM Requested Centre’s Approval for Hyderabad Metro Phase-2?

Hyderabad, June 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A Revanth Reddy, has formally appealed to the Union Minister for Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, to expedite the necessary approvals for the eagerly awaited Hyderabad Metro Phase-2.

The meeting took place at Khattar's residence in Delhi on Thursday. CM Revanth Reddy took this opportunity to elaborate on the significance of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 project, which spans a length of 76.4 km, aiming to address the rising demands for public transportation in the rapidly expanding city of Hyderabad.

The second phase of the metro is expected to facilitate smooth commuting by alleviating road congestion and significantly advancing sustainable development once completed.

Additionally, the Chief Minister conveyed to the Union Minister that the state government is prepared to launch this ambitious project, estimated at Rs. 24,269 crore, in collaboration with the central government.

He also mentioned that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been submitted with necessary revisions following the Union Urban Development Minister's suggestions.

Revanth Reddy urged Khattar to grant essential clearances from other departments, emphasizing the project's critical importance.

In another significant meeting, CM Revanth Reddy also engaged with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Delhi. Post his active political career, Blair has initiated the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBIGC), aimed at aiding global leaders in formulating visions, designing strategies, and executing actionable programs.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, during their hour-long discussion, Revanth Reddy shared insights about the key components of ‘Telangana Rising 2047’, set to be publicly revealed on the second anniversary of the state government on 9th December 2025.

He emphasized the focus on social and economic development for diverse groups including farmers, youth, and women, alongside enhancing overall human development indicators. He also introduced the innovative concept of microplanning through the lenses of urban, peri-urban, and rural areas.

Blair responded positively, recognizing that the entire development agenda would prioritize sustainability principles. He expressed particular interest in flagship initiatives such as Bharat Future City, Young India Skills University, and Young India Sports University.

A Letter of Intent was exchanged between the Telangana government and TBIGC to collaborate on the Telangana Rising vision and its implementation.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by notable figures including the Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies, Uttam Kumar Reddy, MPs Raghuveer Reddy and Shri Mallu Ravi, Advisor to the Government Jitender Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and Secretary (Coordination) Gaurav Uppal.
