Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avkash Kumar confirmed that authorities have apprehended two suspects, including the driver of the vehicle.
The SUV has been confiscated for further investigation. Notably, there was a political party's flag found on the vehicle, raising questions about potential political affiliations with the ruling alliance.
As per official reports, the incident took place around 12:30 AM during a special night vehicle inspection initiative aimed at reducing criminal activities within the city.
A Scorpio, reportedly traveling at approximately 90 km/h from the Digha side, was ordered to stop by the police team for a routine check.
Instead of complying, the driver collided with the three police officers stationed at the checkpoint.
Immediately following the incident, the injured officers—Sub-Inspector Deepak Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Awadhesh Kumar, and Constable Komal Kumari—were rushed to a local hospital, where Komal was pronounced dead during treatment on Thursday morning.
Komal hailed from Nalanda district, and her family has been notified of this tragic incident.
The force of the collision was so severe that all three officers were propelled into the air, landing several meters away.
Both the Scorpio driver and another individual named Ashok also incurred injuries and were admitted to a nearby medical facility alongside the police personnel.
SSP Avkash Kumar visited the site to confirm that two suspects are currently being interrogated, and a case of rash and negligent driving has been filed at the Sri Krishnapuri police station.
The SSP assured that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing, and the vehicle is under detailed examination.
Recently, the Patna police have intensified their vehicle-checking operations in the district to combat both criminal activities and road accidents.
