Bhopal, April 21 (NationPress) A devastating road accident on the Bhopal-Jabalpur highway has resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals, including a two-year-old child, on Monday morning. The collision occurred near ‘Bamhori Dhaba’ within the jurisdiction of Sultanpur police in Raisen district when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) carrying nine passengers crashed into a culvert between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m.

According to police reports, six victims lost their lives at the scene, while three others suffered serious injuries and are currently receiving medical care at the Raisen district hospital.

The group was reportedly returning to Indore from Patna, Bihar, after attending a wedding ceremony involving two of the vehicle's occupants, who were also injured.

Santosh Raghuvanshi, the in-charge of Sultanpur police station, informed IANS that the deceased, along with the injured, were from Indore, though their specific identities are still being verified.

Efforts to reach the victims' families were initially hindered by the tragic circumstances, as the six victims died on the spot, and the three injured individuals were unable to communicate due to the severity of their injuries.

Among the injured were the bride and groom, identified as Deepak Chopra and Sangeeta. Police suspect that the driver, Saurabh Sharma, may have fallen asleep at the wheel after an extended drive.

Further investigations indicate that the group had traveled to Supaul, Bihar, for the wedding and were returning to Indore. Tragically, the accident claimed the lives of a two-year-old named Tasvi (affectionately known as Chinu) and her mother, Sarita.

Investigators are still working to determine the precise cause of the accident, as there were no sharp turns, animal crossings, or signs of interference from other vehicles.

The SUV reportedly crashed directly into the guard wall of the culvert, prompting authorities to speculate on potential contributing factors. The deceased have been transported to a morgue, and the victims' families have been notified.

Once the details of their journey and identities are fully confirmed, arrangements will be made for post-mortem examinations.

The victims of this tragic incident include Mohanlal Kuril, Chanda Devi, Narendra, Sarita, Tasvi, and the driver, Saurabh Sharma. The three survivors are Deepak Chopra, Sangeeta, and Ravi Kholwal.
