Bhopal, April 22 (NationPress) At least eight family members lost their lives, with six others sustaining injuries in a road mishap in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district on Tuesday.

The accident took place in the vicinity of Nohata police station at approximately 10:15 a.m. when the driver of a vehicle carrying 15 passengers lost control near the Sunar River bridge close to Simri village, causing it to plunge off the bridge onto a dry riverbed.

As per police reports, the vehicle's occupants hailed from Jabalpur district.

Among the deceased were five sisters from the same family, along with a niece and a grandson.

Investigating officer Arvind Singh informed IANS that six individuals died instantly, while two children, aged eight and ten, later succumbed to their injuries at Damoh District Hospital.

The remaining injured passengers received treatment at Damoh before being rushed to Jabalpur Medical College via a specially arranged green corridor to ensure prompt medical assistance.

"Post-mortem examinations of the deceased have been conducted at Jabera hospital, and the bodies have been released to the police," the official stated.

Authorities disclosed that the victims were returning home after visiting a local vaidya for herbal remedies to address various health issues.

However, police sources indicate they may have also visited a site dedicated to a local deity, raising questions about the family's decision to travel together in such large numbers. This tragic event is part of a series of road accidents, as three additional crashes occurred across Madhya Pradesh on Monday, resulting in a total of ten fatalities.

On Monday, six family members were killed instantly, and three more were injured on the Jabalpur-Raisen road.

They were returning after attending a marriage. Officials are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Damoh incident.
