Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, April 3 (NationPress) In a devastating road accident, two young individuals tragically lost their lives, while four others, including a 14-year-old child, suffered serious injuries when a speeding SUV veered off course and crashed into the boundary wall of a marriage garden located on Ranipur Road in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh.
The incident took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. as the SUV was traveling from Sarni towards Betul on the Sarni State Highway.
The vehicle was reportedly moving at a high velocity when the driver lost control, likely due to the slippery conditions caused by rain, resulting in a direct collision with the boundary wall of Man Mandir Lawn. The impact was so severe that a substantial portion of the wall collapsed.
The deceased have been identified as Prafull Thoke (25), son of Anil Thoke, and Puneet Thakre (25), son of Prayag Thakre. According to police officials, both men died on the scene.
The injured individuals include Pappu Mohan (23), Prajapati Raju (26), Abhishek (26), and Sangam (14). All six victims were residents of the Arjun Nagar area in Betul.
The SUV involved was reportedly associated with a government office. Eyewitnesses promptly transported the injured to the district hospital in Betul, where they are currently receiving treatment, with some in critical condition.
“Upon being informed about the accident, a police team rushed to the scene. We have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. CCTV footage from the vicinity clearly shows the Bolero speeding before the crash. Initial findings indicate that excessive speed, combined with wet road conditions, were the primary causes. We are assessing the vehicle’s condition, the driver’s actions, and other contributing factors,” stated Devkaran Dehariya, the investigation officer of Betul Kotwali Police Station.
Police sources also mentioned that such accidents are increasingly common on this stretch due to high-speed driving during nighttime, especially when the roads become slippery in rainy conditions.
“Young drivers frequently underestimate the risks associated with wet roads. We urge all motorists to exercise caution by reducing speed in adverse weather and adhering strictly to traffic regulations,” the officer added.
The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families following necessary formalities.
