A woman was allegedly sexually harassed by a co-passenger on a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus near Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru on Friday, 25 July 2025, on route No. 500D/40. The bus driver reportedly intervened, shutting the doors to prevent the accused from escaping before allegedly assaulting him in front of other passengers. A video purportedly showing the incident has since circulated widely on social media.

What Allegedly Happened on the Bus

According to preliminary accounts, the male passenger allegedly touched the woman inappropriately while she was travelling. The woman confronted him and slapped him in response. When challenged, the accused reportedly attempted to flee the bus.

The driver reportedly sealed both doors to prevent the man from escaping. The accused then allegedly removed his shirt and went half-naked, apparently in an attempt to intimidate the woman and other passengers. At that point, the driver allegedly assaulted the accused in the presence of fellow commuters.

Viral Video Triggers Concern

A video purportedly capturing the sequence of events surfaced on social media on Saturday and was widely shared. Authorities have not yet officially identified either the woman or the accused. Police and BMTC officials are said to be examining the footage to establish the sequence of events and verify the identities of those involved. Safety of Women Near IT Corridors Under Scrutiny

The incident has heightened concerns about the safety of working women commuting on public transport in Bengaluru. Manyata Tech Park is one of the city's largest technology campuses, housing numerous IT, BT, and MNC companies, with thousands of women employees relying on BMTC buses daily.

Notably, this is not an isolated incident in the city. In a separate case, Bengaluru police arrested a delivery agent named Vijay Mallikarjun Kamath after a woman in Marathahalli alleged he forced entry into her flat on the pretext of using the restroom and exposed himself. The woman documented the ordeal on social media, stating she kept the door open and recorded the incident on her phone out of fear.

Pattern of Incidents Involving Women's Safety in Bengaluru

In a further incident in Electronic City in July 2026, another delivery agent allegedly entered a flat under the guise of using the restroom, stripped, and exposed himself before being apprehended by security personnel and residents. Flipkart terminated the delivery partner implicated in the Marathahalli case and stated that customer safety is non-negotiable.

Together, these incidents have placed Bengaluru's urban safety infrastructure — from public buses to residential delivery protocols — under renewed public and official scrutiny. Whether the BMTC bus case leads to formal charges against the accused or the driver remains to be seen as police complete their review of the viral footage.
