Raipur (Chhattisgarh), February 4 (NationPress) Today, February 4, is recognized as World Cancer Day, a significant occasion when individuals, organizations, and the global healthcare community come together to highlight the necessity of early detection, enhanced screening, improved treatment options, and global collaborations in combating this severe illness. IANS engaged with a companion of a patient receiving care under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) of Ayushman Bharat in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Narayan Yadu, a resident of the Baloda Bazar district, is currently receiving treatment for cancer at the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur through the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
IANS interviewed his neighbor, Naveen Shesh, who accompanied him to the medical facility.
Naveen stated, “He is my neighbor. I brought him here for his treatment, and everything is being covered under the Ayushman card. So far, he hasn’t had to spend a single rupee. Many of the necessary medications are even provided at no cost.”
Narayan is fighting mouth cancer and has already undergone surgery. Naveen highlighted that there were no expenses incurred even for the surgical procedure. “Currently, he is receiving both post-surgery care and chemotherapy under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana,” he added.
Naveen remarked, “This initiative is genuinely life-saving. Costly treatments like cancer, which once necessitated travel to major cities such as Mumbai, are now accessible even in smaller towns. Private cancer hospitals have also been established, where patients receive treatment under this program.”
With sincerity, Naveen noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is truly dedicated to the upliftment of the underprivileged.
“We can observe many positive transformations in the villages. For example, impoverished families are now receiving pucca houses. The Nalin-Jal Yojana has also delivered tap water directly to our homes. Women, who once faced struggles during the summer months to fetch water, are now benefiting from having it readily available at home,” he elaborated.
Naveen concluded, “I genuinely believe that the government is making significant efforts for the poor, and the Ayushman Yojana is indeed a life-saving initiative for the populace.”
