Lucknow, April 21 (NationPress) The President of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, launched a renewed offensive against the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday, accusing it of overseeing a declining law and order scenario, particularly concerning the crimes directed at Dalits.
Yadav claimed that the state has now become the “number one” location for atrocities against the Dalit community.
"Under the leadership of the BJP, Uttar Pradesh has become the leading state in incidents of atrocities against Dalits. The pertinent question is -- why do states such as UP, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Maharashtra -- all under BJP governance -- prominently feature in episodes of violence, harassment, and notably, the mistreatment of Dalit women?" Yadav asserted in a message on X.
He further accused the BJP of promoting a feudal mindset. “The BJP is fundamentally a party of traditional hegemonists. Its foundational ideology is feudal, which disparages the poor, marginalized, Dalits, Backward Classes, minorities, women, and tribals.
"In terms of mentality, behavior, and intent, BJP leaders persist in living in the pre-Independence era,” he claimed.
Yadav also stated that although the BJP exploits Dalits and backward communities for electoral gain, it does very little to genuinely empower them within the organization or the government.
“In the BJP, a Dalit or backward person may receive a title, but they are seldom granted real power or a significant position. Elections are contested in their name, but they are rarely considered for important roles such as Chief Minister or other key posts,” he indicated.
He criticized what he referred to as the BJP’s tokenism and alleged that meaningful leadership opportunities for Dalits within the party are virtually nonexistent.
“Those who heed their conscience will never tolerate humiliation or oppression. However, many are compelled to compromise for personal gain or selfish motives. The Dalit community today has risen. They are expressing clearly -- they reject the BJP," he concluded.
