Former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on 10 June 2025 wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, congratulating him on completing 4,399 consecutive days in office — a milestone Yediyurappa described as making Modi the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in independent India's history. The letter, addressed directly to the Prime Minister, was also shared on social media by the veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.

What Yediyurappa Said

In his social media post, Yediyurappa wrote: 'Today marks a historic milestone in Bharat's democratic journey as Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji becomes the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in independent India's history. My heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Modi ji. May he continue to lead Bharat to even greater heights in the years ahead.'

In the letter dated 10 June, Yediyurappa said the milestone would be recorded in 'golden letters' in the history of the Republic. He credited successive electoral mandates in 2014, 2019, and 2024 as a reflection of the trust voters had placed in Modi's leadership.

BJP's Ideological Journey

Yediyurappa traced the BJP's roots to the founding of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh by Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, and acknowledged the contributions of leaders including Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and L.K. Advani. He argued that the party's long-standing political mission had 'fully flourished' under Modi's stewardship.

Economic and Governance Claims

The letter highlighted India's economic trajectory under Modi, claiming the country had risen from the world's 11th largest economy in 2014 to the 4th largest, with reported gains in GDP, exports, and foreign direct investment. It also cited improvements in India's Ease of Doing Business ranking, describing the shift as moving from 'red tape to red carpet.'

Yediyurappa pointed to the JAM trinity — Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile — as a mechanism that eliminated middlemen and enabled direct benefit transfers to citizens. He also noted that India's airport network had expanded significantly and that over 4.2 crore houses had been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Flagship Schemes and Policy Milestones

The letter listed several welfare programmes — Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, and Ayushman Bharat — as evidence of expanded financial inclusion, sanitation, housing, and healthcare access. According to the letter, Ayushman Bharat has become the world's largest public health insurance scheme, covering over 22 crore citizens, while the Swachh Bharat Mission has raised sanitation coverage to near-universal levels.

Yediyurappa also referenced the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 and the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya in January 2024 as historically significant policy decisions of the Modi government.

India's Global Standing and the Road to 2047

On foreign policy, the letter noted India's hosting of the G20 Summit, expansion of international cooperation in technology and digital payments including UPI, and what Yediyurappa described as increased recognition of Indian leadership globally. He concluded by expressing confidence in India's trajectory toward becoming a developed nation by 2047 — the centenary of independence — and extended his wishes for the Prime Minister's continued health and leadership.
